ANN & HOPE OUTLET
1689 Post Rd.
(401) 739-3400
A Warwick retailing tradition. Originally the name of a ship built in 1789 in Providence, by the Brown & Ives firm, this was the first discount self-service department store in America. The founders of K-Mart and Wal-Mart learned about discount store strategies from Ann & Hope in the 1950's. Descendents of the Brown family opened the first Ann & Hope as a mill in Cumberland, RI, and began selling goods in the mill after World War II. The Warwick store opened in 1962, and despite a recent decision to downsize, the store will remain open in a smaller outlet version.
Catalog Fashion Outlet (738-5145) and The Kid's Outlet (738-5145), offering 50% to 70% off factory overstocked clothing, are also in the Ann & Hope plaza.
